Member - Dorothy Dobbie

President - Pegasus Publications

Dorothy DobbieDorothy Dobbie is the founder and president of Pegasus Publications Inc. the publisher of a dozen newsstand and consumer magazines, including Manitoba Gardener and SMART Connections. She is the host of a weekly radio show on gardening, writes weekly columns for the Winnipeg Free Press Weeklies and the Edmonton Examiner, and makes many public presentations about gardening and business each year.

Mrs. Dobbie is a former Member of Parliament (1988-1993), where she served as Parliamentary Secretary in a number of portfolios including Indian and Northern Affairs, Consumer and Corporate Affairs and the Environment. She was co–chair of the Dobbie-Beaudoin Joint Parliamentary Committee on the Renewal of Canada, which led to the Charlottetown Accord.

She is a member of the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council, Prairie Region, on the Manitoba Advisory Board for Rogers Broadcasting System, and on the Board of the Tree Canada Foundation. She is also the president of the Coalition to Save the Elms in Winnipeg, a citizen’s group devoted to preserving the Winnipeg urban forest, and she is one of the founding members of the Canadian Urban Forest Network.

Mrs. Dobbie was business person of the year in Manitoba in 1983 and Woman of the Year (Business) in 1985. She has received numerous other awards and citations. She continues to be active on a number of community boards and committees, including the Deer Lodge Hospital Foundation and the Social Planning Council of Winnipeg, but she still finds time to garden, to write, to practice photography and to spend time with her four grandchildren. She is married to Glenn and is the mother of Lori, a local lawyer, and Shauna, who runs the Pegasus Ontario branch of the company.
